External Sources

  • After you have exhausted research from the company site and the CSR report, you can begin to research external sources.
  • Be sure to only include data from reliable third party sources.
  • Reliable sources include academic peer reviewed journals, books from reputable publishing houses, research completed by well recognized NGO’s, or from the companies themselves. Be weary of extremist literature, or self-published sources.
A Note on Media Sources:
  • Typically, information from media is included in the “News” section of Zumer.
  • In some cases it may be appropriate to include investigative facts in a news story, but only reference key points. Don’t cut and paste an entire article. Articles belong in the news section.
  • The key question to ask yourself when deciding whether data is more suitable for “News” or “Details” is to look at the point of view from which the information is written. Typically media reports are written in the form of a story and have a bias, whereas “Details” information are facts about the company.
  • Remember that alternative media and weblogs can be included in the “News” section of Zumer. Again, use your discretion as to a reputable weblog/journalist publication.
